01 · The problem
What was wrong
Pricing was quoted from memory. Production was scheduled on a physical T-card wall nobody could see unless they were standing in front of it. Problems were reported by shouting across the workshop.
02 · What I built
The fix
A staff hub with email login and three roles, a pricing calculator, a drag-and-drop production scheduler that reads job sheets on its own, and a full-screen wall display that mirrors the board onto a workshop TV.
03 · How it works
The parts that matter
- Email login with three roles — staff, manager, admin — enforced in server checks and in Postgres Row-Level Security.
- Pricing calculator: service → product → option gives an instant VAT-labelled guide quote, saved or printed as a branded PDF.
- T-card production scheduler: upload an Accura job-sheet PDF and it reads the job straight into a card — client, job number, title, quantity, booked-in and dispatch dates, print and cut duration, material stock, delivery method, machines.
- Cards drag onto a day and a lane — Flat-Bed, Roll-Media, Finishing — in 30-minute slots with a status, in a toggleable one, two or four-week view.
- Wall display at /display mirrors the physical board full-screen on a TV and refreshes itself. It runs on one of D4P's own signage screens.
- Issue reporting with manager triage — assign, status, action and review notes — and progress visible to whoever raised it.
- Expenses with a working HMRC mileage claim calculator.
- Self-hosted Montserrat, so no user IPs go to Google.
04 · What changed
The outcome
The physical T-card wall now has a digital twin that everyone can see, including on the shop-floor screen.
